Dad’s Cafe

Wyoming Ruben

I was really hoping this place would be awesome, I love little mom and pop places that are not big chains like, Tasty Bones here in old Cheyenne.

Mer and I went to Dad’s Cafe here in Cheyenne, hoping for some awesome home cooking style lunch. Actually we were looking for a club sandwich but that was not a menu item.

Wyoming RubenI ordered a Wyoming Ruben from the menu Which is a Corned Brisket meat on Homemade  (*everything listed below is homemade):

  1. Rybread
  2. Russian Dressing
  3. Sauerkraut

Beef StewTopped with Swiss Cheese. Man doesn’t that sound good? it even looks impressive. it was a thick sandwich which was about the size of your palm. I also ordered a cup of the beef stew as a side. Mer ordered the bison brisket Panini with some lettuce tomato and onion. It too looked very good ( sorry no pic of that one)

THE REVIEW:

Service:

We walked in and went to the counter to order, a gal came up and asked us what we wanted. Mer ordered let her know everything she wanted and then looked at me, I ordered what I wanted, then she kind of walked away, didn’t write anything down. Another gentleman came to the counter and asked us what we would like. We started to order again, then he forcefully spoke to a customer behind us who was talking to the waitress and says ” We can discuss this matter later she needs to get to work she is busy”. After that he focused his attention back to us and completes taking our order and starts to make it.

We slide down the counter to the check out,  the lady asks us what we ordered…. So again we had to tell a 3rd person what our order was. we added our side and drinks. I had have a surgery soda because they didn’t have any diet drinks ( I guess I could have had water seems like that was their only option for diabetics).  We paid our bill which i thought was a little steep. $23.00 for two sandwiches a bowl of soup and 2 sodas.  I can give this the benefit of the doubt, family business just starting up learning the ropes of running a cafe in the west.

Food:

I will start by saying the flavor of the Russian dressing and the home made Sauerkraut were good….
The bread for my Sandwich was way to thick (perhaps a personal preference but a lot of bread).
I took a bit and pulled the whole chunk of meet out. It was a slab of meat that was half fat, not the chewy flavorful kind, but hard a grisly, I couldn’t bite through it. adn burned the crap out of the top of my mouth.

The whole sandwich fell apart after that. So I tossed the bread aside pulled what meat I could off the slab and had a sauerkraut salad with russian dressing.

Same thing happened to Mer’s Panini, meat was half grissly fat and she could bit through it. so did about the same as me

I then tried the soup. It had potatoes and carrots and chucks of brisket in it. It was OK and the highlight of my meal. Very bland, I think I bumped half of the pepper shaker in into it and quite a bit of salt just to get some flavor.

I have to give this visit a rating of:

I will give them one more try… Someday, I certainly hope they have figured out there business model and food quality by then! Keep try Dad’s!!!!
